Cool Sh*t!!- A Game of Thrones Teaser Trailer
Fantasy fanboys, prepare to geek out like you haven't since the last Lord of the Rings movie. The second teaser trailer (the first didn't show much so I'm not gonna bother) for George R.R. Martin's HBO adaption of his uber famous, best selling fantasy series, A Game Of Thrones. There will be seven books in the series and each book will be a full season of television. If your wondering how their gonna draw that out, don't worry, each book if rather substantial. I'm sure they tossed around the idea of turning the series into a movie franchise like Lord of the Rings, but the books are just too long. Television is probably the best medium for an adaption. I mean, the LOTRs movie were long enough!! I don't know too many people who would have lasted another 10 minutes watching the end of Return of the King- three and a half hours is much too long for a single movie sitting (no offense to the movie itself, I loved it). Anyways, the series will premier Spring of 2011 on HBO. I'm hoping I'll have HBO by then- I was very upset last night when I couldn't watch Boardwalk Empire, grrrrr....
Here is the plot synopsis for the series:
"Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones."
I can't say I finished reading the series, or even the first book for that matter, haha. It just wasn't suited to my taste of novels. I had the same problem I had while reading the Lord of the Rings books, which was basically the fact that I felt there was no characterization and no audience attachment to any of the characters. Anyways, if I ever force myself to read the rest of the book, I'll write a full review on it. In the meantime, check out the teaser.
